Peace In A Chatioc World - I Messed Up My Blog Software!
How often do you get the chance to mess up your digital life and still attain some peace?
I have this unfortunate experience just now when I was tweaking the software that was hosting this blog (all geeks like to tweak things around)…
Anyway, the story goes:
I noticed that the Wordpress community was now blessed with the release the next major version. If you’re attentive, the software is now running the latest Wordpress 2.2. A quick glance at the official download site reveals over 200+ bug fixes and of course enhanced performance in page load.
Upgrading is a piece of cake as I copied the new files over the existing installation directory. Everything looks great! Even the database was upgrade in under a second.
Until I start looking for my sidebar… the one on the right hand side of the screen…
They are completely gone!
What a shock that is! (Gee… and we’re talking about peace here)
It took me quite a while to figured out that there are no way I can turn back and got my previous configuration back because:
1. I don’t want to corrupt the blog database!
2. I didn’t backup my previous database!
3. I didn’t want to waste time restoring the older software.
.
I search around for a solution but nothing on the widgets work as install and uninstall those that failed. In one incidence, it even corrupted the blog entirely!
Fortunately, I has the experienced drawn from the past to handle this kind of situation calmly. I had saved the day.
Anyway, a few reading here and there and a few unsuccessful attempts to install other plugins, I’ve finally gotten all the codes running properly on the sidebar you see on the right hand side.
Phwee….
So as a reflection to take home - to solve problems, clear contemplation and with the right knowledge is necessary! Only then can you have any peace. That statement probably applies to other aspects of our lives too!
Think about! Leave me your thoughts and feedbacks in the comments above.
.
Thanks for reading this far! It’s past 2am now and I’ll better catch some sleep before I have problems getting up tomorrow (Ops, should be today’s) morning! ![]()
